Russian journalist calls to annex Vitsebsk, Homel and Mahileu regions

Famous Russian source "Sputnik & pogrom" has published an article that questions the territorial integrity of Belarus.

Their author Kilill Averyanov-Minsky is well-known for his previous attacks against Russia's neighbors. This time, he says that Belarus is "an artificially created unity made up from indigenous Russian territory".

"Everyone knows that in 1954 Crimea was illegally transferred from the Russian SFSR to the Ukrainian SSR, many have heard that in 1918, the Soviet Ukraine annexed the territory of Donetsk-Krivoy Rog Soviet Republic, but few people know that in 1920 Vitsebsk, Mahileu and Homel regions previously owned by the Russian Federation were annexed to Belarus SSR. Vitsebsk, Mahileu and Homel were transferred to the Soviet Belarus as a sack of potatoes" the author writes.

He believes there were no Belarusians in the eastern part of the country, and if there were some then they lost their national identity long ago: language and culture. He makes up his ideological basis on that it is necessary to review current borders. That was the scenario of the war between Russia and Ukraine a year ago.

"In recent years, the authorities of former BSSR carefully feed the belarusization machine, completely ignoring what this policy has resulted in the ex-Ukraine SSR. Perhaps, President Lukashenka expects that the Kremlin today has the same Soviet multinational unity as it was in the 20s of the last century. It is quite reasonable to some extent. But everything is not so simple", he writes.

Kirill Averyanov-Minsky stresses that "in the near future, Russia will enact the law on unfair Crimea transfer to the Soviet Ukraine in 1954". Based on this, there will be an issue on eastern territories of Belarus, "Western provinces of the RSFSR were also illegally annexed to the Soviet Belarus".
