Slavamir Adamovich: Boycott of “elections” will inspire people to be active
Slavamir Adamovich

Belarusian national forces should call on the candidates who were registered by the Central Election Commission to withdraw from “elections” and organise the unified strategy of the boycott.

Belarusian poet and former political prisoner Slavamir Adamovich said it in an interview with charter97.org.

– You are a member of Mikalai Statkevich's initiative team, which was denied registration by the Central Election Commission (CEC) on Monday. What strategy the Belarusian democratic forces should have at this stage, in your view?

– Let's make it clear with definitions. I prefer the term “national forces” for a number of reasons.

The national forces should propose those who have been registered by the CEC to leave the “election process”. They should withdraw and join the national boycott of the “elections” that must be announced immediately.

They should create a representative body of the national self-government by October 11 that would coordinate actions to hold real elections of legitimate Belarusian authorities. I would propose Mikalai Statkevich as the head of the self-government body, a sort of the Belarusian National Congress.

It would be a strong strategic move that would shatter the existing regime of the “Moscow prosecutor”. It would inspire people to be active.

The complete release of all political prisoners and all of us is possible only if the unified national political force is created. Without it, many movements of opposition politicians at the “elections” will be just searches for immediate profit.
