Poland does not want to be in treaty with Lukashenka, but to build normal European relations with him, based on European standards.

This was stated by the Foreign Minister of Poland Witold Waszczykowski in an interview to Radio Poland.

“We want to resume the dialogue in order to take care of members of national minorities living in Belarus. We won’t be able to take care of the Polish minority without resuming the dialogue with the Belarusian authorities,” – the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland said.

Witold Waszczykowski expressed the hope that the next attempt of Warsaw to restore contacts with Minsk would be successful.

“We do not want to be in treaty with Lukashenka, but to build normal European relations with him, based on European standards, in order to restore relations with Belarus, and to persuade the authorities of this country to treat its citizens in the European way, including the Polish minority,” – Witold Waszczykowski said.

We remind that the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland Konrad Szymanski claimed that Poland supports the policy of the European Union's openness towards Belarus, including the limitation of sanctions against Minsk.

Earlier it was reported that EU foreign ministers would adopt conclusions on Belarus on February 15. Late last year, the EU Council decided to suspend the sanctions against Belarus for four months.

In 2011, the EU imposed sanctions against the Belarusian authorities, including Aliaksandr Lukashenka in connection with the falsification of the results of the presidential elections and repression against the opposition.
