Dangerous Show On The Border

Now it’s clear why a checkpoint was ostentatiously put up in the Ashmiany district recently.

“If they are attacking from the Pabrade area, is this the area of responsibility of this battalion?” Aliaksandr Lukashenka plays the role of a military leader who is preparing not to give up an inch of his native land. This is very convenient, considering that no one will encroach on it.

“We are sure that if we calm down somewhere, they [the West] will attack us. This is absolutely true. But we are not going to go there,” said the ruler of Belarus. His memory is not very good, because not so long ago he said: “They will never come here, believe me.”

This whole circus with the sudden inspection, however, is not at all harmless. Ritual war dances on the border with Lithuania could ultimately lead to a real aggravation. Moreover, Lukashenka continued to escalate:

“Those who violated the state border — to destruction. No ceremonies. And we will do so. Therefore, any violation of the state border means destruction.”

Question: does this mean that lethal fire will be opened on illegal migrants who are trying to break into the European Union? I remember they even destroyed the Belarusian border checkpoint, and they didn’t get anything for it. Nowadays such spectacular actions are no longer organized, but small groups still regularly try to infiltrate the EU.

However, knowing Lukashenka, it is easy to predict that Belarusian border guards will be ordered not to shoot at migrants. Nevertheless, the atmosphere looks increasingly alarming: many wars began with provocations on the borders...
