Belarusian police destroyed flags of European Union

After arresting opposition activists, Minsk policemen seized and destroyed flags of the European Union, believing that European symbols “can be used for illegal aims”.

Activists of the civil campaign “European Belarus” Paval Kurjanovich, Marta Majseenka and Kanstantsin Ivanou were detained on September 28 on the eve of the protest rally against rigged election results of the “parliamentary elections”. The young people were detained by policemen of Baraulyany district police department Khramoj and Udodau. In the police department flags of the EU and flags of Minsk, a loudspeaker and banners were seized from the oppositionists. The activists were released without a report being drawn up.

On November 14 Marta Majseenka addressed Baraulyany police department with a demand to give back the things seized from the activists. However policemen returned only Minsk flags and the loudspeaker. As said by policemen, the flags of the EU and banners were destroyed, as they could be used “for illegal aims”.
