National Bank: No financial crisis in Belarus

The National Bank asserts that the bank system of Belarus in the conditions of the global financial crisis “works stably”.

The spokesperson of the National bank Anatol Dzardou stated at a press-conference today: “A crisis is when you do not have money to pay with, when banks are ruined, when financial losses are huge. Such things do not happen in Belarus, that’s mean there is no financial crisis,” he said.

However, Drazdou admitted that the Belarusian economy “experiences difficulties connected with the global financial crisis”.

The representative of the National Bank of Belarus informed that “starting from August, we have spent $0.8 billion of gold and currency reserves”. He noted that “the National bank receives other credits too,” Drazdou noted.

In general he believes that “nothing tragic is happening here, though everybody is intimidating each other”. “Negative forecasts are as a rule made by persons who want to increase their popularitydue to the crisis,” the official said.
