Poroshenko submits to Rada draft appeal to UN and EU for deployment of peacekeepers

The corresponding draft resolution, No. 2379, was published on the Web site of the Verkhovna Rada.

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has submitted to the Verkhovna Rada a draft resolution appealing to the Security Council of the United Nations and the Council of the European Union to deploy an international peacekeeping and security mission in Ukraine.

The corresponding draft resolution, No. 2379, was published on the Web site of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on Monday, UNIAN reports.

"The adoption of the resolution will create conditions for an appeal on behalf of Ukraine to the United Nations and the European Union on the deployment of an international peacekeeping and security mission on the territory of Ukraine, which will contribute to a political resolution and an early normalization of the situation in separate areas of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions. It will also help to restore law and order in these areas, constitutional rights and freedoms of citizens, the rights and legitimate interests of legal persons, and the creation of conditions for the return of internally displaced persons," the explanatory note for the bill says.

As it was reported earlier, on March 13 Ukraine made an official request to the United Nations to deploy UN peacekeepers in the Donbas.

On March 2, Poroshenko signed a decree to enact the decision of the National Security and Defense Council of February 18 "On an appeal to the United Nations and the European Union on the deployment of an international peacekeeping and security mission on the territory of Ukraine."
