Vytautas Landsbergis: Lukashenka serves Putin

The first head of independent Lithuania calls not to believe the Belarusian dictator.

Dictator Lukashenka plays a role of a peacekeeper, allegedly trying to reconcile Ukraine with Russia. Europe accepts this role, but Lukashenka will hardly get rid of Russia's control.

Asked by Belsat if Belarus could leave Russia's orbit and take a path to the integration with Europe, first head of independent Lithuania Vytautas Landsbergis said:

“A real peacekeeper should propose a peace agreement for Russia and Ukraine. If I saw that Mr Lukashenka offers it to both sides of the Russian-Ukrainian war... The neighbour who has rather good relations with each of the sides could tell them: 'Friends, sit down and work out a peace agreement. Stop fighting.' In this case, I would call him a peacekeeper.

If he connives at the manoeuvres aimed at deceiving the weaker side, he serves the stronger side. If the third party is interested in peace and sympathises with those who suffer, it must speak about peace between Ukraine and Russia rather than mercenaries, because if they say mercenaries allegedly fight there, it is deceit, it is a kingdom of lies.

Who hired the mercenaries? They are fighting for those who hired them, who supplies them with state-of-the-art weapons, gives them clothes and equipment and send troops, officers and military hardware as direct aid.”
