In Biaroza organizers of anti-war rally accused of extremism

Civil right and public activists from of Biaroza filed an application for a picket on March 9, but got a refusal.

It was planned to hold the rally on the occasion when Executive Committee of All-Belarusian Congress proclaimed the Belarusian People's Republic (BNR) in 1918. Activists wanted to remind about this historic event, as well as to protest against the deployment of Russian military bases in Belarus and the existence of political prisoners.

However, Biarozauski District Executive Committee denied the permission, Viasna Hunan Right Center reports. The refusal said that the picket contained extremist goals and incitement of ethnic hatred, one of the organizers Siarhei Rusetski says.

By the way, according to the activist, last year they filed a similar application to the District Executive Committee. Then officials found protest against the presence of Russian troops on the territory of Ukraine extremist. This year the organizers removed the proposal from the campaign, but officials still banned the picket. Applicants believe that now officials have considered a protest against Russian military bases on the territory of Belarus an incitement of ethnic hatred.
